西洋装飾の多くが視覚効果を目的とするのに
対し、和柄は反復する幾何学に「長寿」「繁栄」
「調和」といった具体的な祈りを込める。
正倉院宝物、源氏物語、雅楽装束など、確かな
史料的裏付けを持つ文様が多く、来歴（プロヴェ
ナンス）を重視するコレクター心理に響く。
市松や青海波の反復構造は、現代の建築・ジュ

市松（いちまつ）
Ichimatsu (Checkerboard)
由来 / Origin
起源は古代の「石畳文」。江戸中期に歌舞伎役者・佐野川市松が 舞台衣装に用いて大流行し、以後「市松」の
名で定着。
Rooted in the ancient "ishidatami" (stone-pavement) motif; it took the name Ichimatsu after mid-Edo-period kabuki actor
Sanogawa Ichimatsu wore it on stage and made it fashionable.
意味 / Meaning
途切れず続く格子模様から「繁栄・子孫繁栄」の吉祥文様とされる。
The endlessly repeating grid symbolizes prosperity and the unbroken continuity of family lineage.

麻の葉（あさのは）
Asanoha (Hemp Leaf)
由来 / Origin
平安時代の仏像装飾にも見られ、江戸時代に着物文様として 庶民に広く普及。
Traced back to Heian-period Buddhist statue decoration; became widely popular as a kimono motif among commoners in the
Edo period.
意味 / Meaning
麻は成長が早く真っ直ぐ育つことから、子どもの健やかな成長を 願う文様として産着や子ども用の着物に用い
られてきた。
Because hemp grows quickly and straight, the pattern has long been used on baby clothing and children's kimono as a wish
for healthy, upright growth.

青海波（せいがいは）
Seigaiha (Blue Ocean Waves)
由来 / Origin
起源は古代ペルシャ（ササン朝、226–651年）の幾何学文様。 シルクロードを経て飛鳥時代に伝来し、名称は平
安時代の雅楽の 演目『青海波』に由来する。
Originates in the geometric motifs of ancient Sassanid Persia (226-651 CE), reaching Japan via the Silk Road in the Asuka
period. Its name derives from a Heian-period court dance (bugaku) called "Seigaiha."
意味 / Meaning
幾重にも重なり無限に続く波から「未来永劫の幸せ」「平穏な 暮らしの継続」を願う吉祥文様。
The endlessly overlapping waves express a wish for lasting happiness and the continuation of a peaceful life.

七宝（しっぽう）
Shippō (Seven Treasures)
由来 / Origin
同大の円を四分の一ずつ重ねる構成で、平安時代以降の 工芸・染織に広く用いられてきた伝統文様。
Formed by overlapping equal circles by one quarter; a traditional motif widely used in crafts and textiles since the Heian
period.
意味 / Meaning
円が四方八方に切れ目なく繋がる様から「円満」「調和」 「ご縁が繋がる」ことを象徴する吉祥文様。名は仏教の
七つの宝 （金・銀・瑠璃など）に由来するとされる。
The seamlessly interlocking circles symbolize harmony, completeness, and the connection of good relationships. The name
references the "seven treasures" of Buddhist scripture (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, and others).

亀甲（きっこう）
Kikkō (Tortoiseshell Hexagon)
由来 / Origin
正倉院宝物にも見られる古代由来の文様で、亀の甲羅の 六角形を図案化したもの。
A hexagonal motif modeled on a tortoise shell, with examples dating back to treasures preserved in the ancient Shōsōin
repository.
意味 / Meaning
「鶴は千年、亀は万年」の諺の通り、亀は長寿の象徴とされ、 亀甲文様は長寿・吉祥を願う文様として慶事に用
いられてきた。
Reflecting the proverb "the crane lives a thousand years, the tortoise ten thousand," the tortoise symbolizes longevity, making

唐草（からくさ）
Karakusa (Arabesque Vine)
由来 / Origin
起源は古代エジプト・ギリシャの蔓草文様とされ、 シルクロードを経て中国・日本へ伝来。奈良時代の正倉院裂
にも 唐草文様が見られる。
Believed to originate in ancient Egyptian and Greek vine motifs, transmitted via the Silk Road through China to Japan;
examples of karakusa appear in Nara-period Shōsōin textiles.
意味 / Meaning
蔓が絶えず伸び広がる様から「子孫繁栄」「長寿」を願う 吉祥文様とされる。日本では緑地に唐草模様の風呂
敷が 庶民の生活道具として広く親しまれた。
The ever-extending, spreading vines symbolize the prosperity of descendants and long life. In Japan, the green
karakusa-pattern furoshiki (wrapping cloth) became a familiar household item among the general public.
